Resident Evil Remake

The same story as the Original Resident Evil, the Remake features Wesker as the Captain of the S.T.A.R.S. Team, and though the graphics and some smaller details of the story may have changed, he's still the same cool, confident guy he once was, minus the classic cheese of the original. His role in this game (and the original) is significantly larger than his role in Zero, and what's more, it's significantly more complicated. Most questions asked about Wesker originate from this game, so without further ado, here goes the explanation.

Warning: Spoilers!

When their sister team, Bravo, goes missing, Alpha Team is dispatched to the Arklay Forest to find their downed helicopter. But they find just a little more than that.

Members Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Joseph Frost, and Brad Vickers, under the leadership of Captain Wesker, make their way into the forests to search for their missing comrades. When attacked by a pack of wild, ravenous dogs, however, they're forced to take shelter in an old mansion; the Spencer Mansion, loosing two members of their teams along the way, Joseph and Barry, the latter whom they're unsure of his fate.

Whether things are worse or better inside the mansion remains to be questioned though. Aside from the Zombie's, spiders, dogs, and other various monsters is a large amount of treachery. Alpha team doesn't realize it's been lured into this mansion by their Captain in order to attain combat data against the various monsters crawling about.

Wesker's mission was to collect this combat data, allowing his pointman, Chris Redfield, to roam the infested hallways and search for clues to get to the next area, leaving him a few breadcrumbs along the way so that he could make it to the final confrontation, where the most significant combat data lay; against the T-001, a large Bio Organic Weapon which Wesker refers to as 'magnificent' for its power.

When Chris does finally make it to where the Tyrant is being held, Wesker reveals several things. First of all, Chris had already found out that Wesker used to be a researcher for Umbrella. So with said information, he believes Wesker is being paid under the table by Umbrella to do their dirty work for them, and accuses him of such. Wesker, however, enlightens him of the fact that this whole set up was his plan, though he may have seemed to be following Umbrella's orders, and that there is a third party involved.

So apparently, Wesker was playing both the S.T.A.R.S. AND Umbrella. Like I said, he's a clever little bastard. In essence, Wesker used S.T.A.R.S. to get the combat data, which Umbrella believed he was going to turn in to them, when all along he'd planned to sell that data out to a third party which remains unnamed.

And once he'd gotten his data, his mission, set by the third party, was to destroy the mansion lab and all the evidence along with it. Pretty clean cut huh? Well here's where it gets tricky...

Upon releasing the Tyrant on Chris, in which he would complete his combat data collection and thus be able to destroy the lab and the mansion, something happens that wasn't exactly planned. Oh, it was prepared for, but definitely not planned. The Tyrant attacks Wesker, and impales him, mortally wounding him, and throws his body to the side like a feather. The it proceeds to attack Chris.

Chris overcomes the Tyrant, and goes to help Rebecca whom Wesker had shot earlier, though Rebecca is fine thanks to her bullet proof vest. That's when they both notice that Wesker is gone. Apparently, he's wondering around about to die from the hole in his body...and yes, I'm being sarcastic.

Things from here are mostly speculation. Some people have speculated that perhaps Birkin snuck in during the Tyrant battle and helped Wesker out, or another unnamed and unseen person, and some figure he was able to manage to get out on his own, but with a hole in him like that, you wouldn't expect him to be able to get very far. Either way though, Wesker's gone now.

After the game ends, two more games, RE2 and 3, come along without word from Wesker, who is apparently dead. But he is mentioned in files in RE2, but since I've never played the third one, I'm not so sure about 3. Either way though, during the events of the game, it's another three or four months before we actually hear anything from Wesker again...
